This company, situated on the Sunshine Coast (Queensland) of Australia, is about to commence building a 12-hectare high-tech greenhouse for the production of strawberries. The start of this project will be around January 2024, and because the company wants the Head Grower to be involved in the planning phase, they are looking for a Head Grower now. He or she can advise the company during the planning and the purchase of the different equipment needed to get the best yield possible. The Head Grower must be willing to relocate to Australia by the end of 2024. The planting period is planned for June 2025.
Job description
The successful candidate will be responsible for a staff of Assistant Growers and will report directly to the General Manager. He or she will supervise all aspects of growing fresh fruits from planting, cultivation, irrigation, pest and disease control, climate control, and harvesting of the crops to managing the implementation of technical procedures.
Job requirements
The candidate we are looking for is hands-on and has a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a strawberry grower in a high-tech controlled climate. A strong understanding of plant growth as well as plant physiology and interaction with varying environmental conditions and requirements is essential. He or she is familiar with Priva computer software and horticultural terminology. The successful candidate likes to take initiative, is a team player, and has strong communication skills in English, both written and oral.
He or she must be willing to live and work in Australia for 100%. The company can provide accommodation.
